In our quest to connect business with intelligence in the field of Smart Grids and better understand how  Europe's Smart Cities are developing, we'd like your help.

1. The geographic distribution of advanced European Smart Cities seems to favor Northern Coastal Europe and Southern Europe (Mediterranean). Why is this the case? *

2. (Motives) Nice's Eco Vallée has as a main goal, to use its rapidly developing eco-credentials to attract innovative businesses and drive economic development through its eco-compatible focus. Is this common to all Smart Cities, or are there other goals being pursued by Smart Cities? (Examples below) *
a. All Smart Cities try to use their eco-credentials to attract green business and innovation.
b. Smart Cities exist to fight wasted energy and don't need wider economic development goals.
c. Smart Cities are laboratories needed to study energy consumption within a population, their purpose is to develop wider efficiency strategies, test grid technology, and re-train primary energy consumers – the urban population- on sustainable behaviors.

3. Considering the difficult economic environment, what is the most effective driver for the continued development and investment into Smart Cities? *
